A 32-year-old tricycle operator, Buhari Abdulkarim has been sentenced to jail by an Abuja Upper Area Court for allegedly stealing an air conditioner from the Redeemed Christian Church in Abuja.
The judge also ordered that the accused be given seven lashes of the cane.
The accused committed the offence at the church premises at Flower Garden Estate, Lokogoma area of Abuja on August 11 at about 4p.m when he illegally trespassed and made away with the church’s air conditioner.
According to the prosecutor the convict was nabbed and dispossessed of the item when a member of the church sighted the accused and raised an alarm.
The accused pleaded guilty to the two count-charge of criminal trespass and theft.
The prosecuting counsel urged the court to try the convict summarily.
Justice Umar Yusuf Kagarko sentenced the convict to seven weeks imprisonment with an option of N12,000.
