Amidst massive evacuation from Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma, an unusual incident has erupted at the Miami airport as Police shot a man trying to get into a Miami airport terminal from a runway while wielding a knife, thus causing the closure of a busy concourse.

According to Miami-Dade Police Director Juan, the unidentified suspect entered a restricted area on the tarmac exactly “where the airplanes actually come in.”

Perez while speaking to reporters during a news conference said, “One of the sergeants that responded observed a gentleman on the tarmac. The gentleman fled into a room allegedly armed with a knife”.

Perez disclosed further that, the man tried to leave the room and return to the terminal through the ceiling. “That’s when officers confronted the man and shot him”, he said.

“The suspect was taken to a hospital in stable condition to be treated for his injuries. It’s not clear how he was able to breach security and get onto the runway”, Perez added.

However, in a bid to douse rousing tensions among travelers, authorities stressed they believe the suspect acted alone.

“We do not believe this is related to a terrorist incident at all, but we are not ruling that out because it is early,” Perez said.
