Reports say that a detachment of the Nigerian military are currently involved in an operation to wipe out Boko Haram insurgents from Sambisa forest.
Members of the terrorist sect have used the forest as their stronghold and refuge – from where they carry out insurgent activities.
Military sources told Punch Newspaper on Wednesday, February 11, that “troops have commenced a major operation in Sambisa to clean the forest of terrorists.”
The military source however failed to divulge the details of the operation, but stressed that “insurgents will be flushed out soon.”
Sambisa Forest is believed to be the hideout of the insurgents and was also used as the holding place of the over 200 schoolgirls, kidnapped from Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno, on April 14, 2014.
