Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha has explained why he said the All Progressive Congress (APC) would govern Imo state for 24 years.
He said this through a statement by his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo in Owerri.
“Some members of the PDP in the state, yet to recover from the shock of losing the governorship elections in 2011 and in 2015 consecutively, have been making fruitless efforts to read harmful meaning into that innocent claim of the governor, by trying to compare it with a similar claim by the former National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Vincent Ogbulafor, some time ago that his party would rule the country for 60 years, which could not be achieved by the party,” Onwuemeodo said.
“Government also acknowledged what it called the concerted effort being made by some PDP elements in the state to wrongly situate the claim by the governor that his party would not only become stronger in the state and even in the South-East, but would govern the state for 24 years,” he added.
Onwuemeodo further explained that the background of Okorocha’s claim and that of Ogbulafor’s claim cannot be the same.
“That of Ogbulafor was only anchored on federal might they had always leveraged on to indulge in high degree of impunity during elections, while that of Okorocha was anchored on enviable record of achievements by his administration,” he stressed.
