It was indeed The Convergence – an exciting melting pot of Fashion, Music and Twitter. Last Saturday, YNaija in conjunction with Chocolate City, put together the first ever #Hashtag party which took place at the trendy Swe Bar. The roll call of guests included: Audu Maikori, Austin ‘Jay Jay’ Okocha, Stella Damasus, Gideon Okeke, Ufuoma Ejenebor, Katung Aduwak, Linda Ikeji, Praiz, Inyanya, Tunde Ednut and Tee A, amongst other notable figures.
After the dazzling guests walked the red carpet, the event kicked off with the introduction of the anchors for the night – compere extraordinaire, Andre Blaze and the Beat FM’s Oreka Godis. They took time to intimate those who attended on what the show was about before they called up EFA, who was the first performer for the night. Ace comedian, Emeka Smith took to the stage next and cracked up the crowd alongside some of his protégés in the comedy business.
As soon as that was done, Souza, the runner-up from YNaija’s Cutting Edge Competiton showed off her beautiful earthy collection, The Celebration of Sunlight. The crowd clapped and cheered, unable to disguise their admiration and delight. Andre brought up Praiz for his performance. After him, Beazy took to the stage and wowed the crowd.
The next segment was “Twitter and I”. Oreka moved into the crowd and asked guests randomly what Twitter has been like for them. She picked out MI Abaga and DJ Caise and received some witty responses from them. IcePrince and Brymo then came up and performed ‘Superstar’ and ‘Oleku’ and got the crowd singing along. Andre then came up to handle the second part of “Twitter and I”.
After the fun segment, Ayo Naledi took her turn to show off her collection – with unique and trendy pieces. She got a rousing ovation from the crowd who loved the way she mixed and matched Ankara with casual pieces. The tempo went up several notches higher as Jesse Jags came up and performed ‘Jargo’ and ‘Pump it up’, then the ambience became electric after MI Abaga took over from his younger brother and performed several songs from his new album. By this time, most people were already up on their feet dancing, singing along and taking snapshots with their mobile phones.
Next, Adebola Williams, Operations Director of the Y!/YNaija brand introduced @GbagaunDetector as the winner of the YNaija Twitter Personality Series for the first quarter. The cameras clicked away as the mysterious tweeter was unravelled and he eventually had to run off the stage. To crown the night off, the Winner of YNaija’s NextBigThing Competition, Runz, came out to perform his popular ‘Buga’ number to end the show.
It was a fantastic night of fun and networking. And more than ever, we’re looking forward to #Hashtag 2! said Ifreke Inyang, Assistant Editor of YNaija.
