A factional group within the People’s Democratic Party, known as the Restart PDP Project, on Friday, stated that former president Goodluck Jonathan was deceived to lend his support to the emergence of Ali Modu Sheriff as the national chairman of the main opposition party.
The group said that the PDP had no reason to justify Sheriff as the party chairman, stressing that he was constantly defecting from party to party.
Leader of the group, Emmanuel Nwosu, said this while speaking with newsmen in Abuja. Nwosu noted that the selection of Sheriff shouldn’t stand because several members of the party and chairmen of the party at the state level have outrightly rejected him.
Nwosu said that: “The people that planned and masterminded the ‘coup’ misled former president Goodluck Jonathan and the governors. There was a meeting a few weeks back, I was privy to that meeting.”
“A member was asked to brief the party and this young man deceived the party that there was no motion that struck out Uche Secondus’ case. The group told a blatant lie and misled the whole party.”
“I am certain that Jonathan having been engaged in various international assignments, would not have been properly briefed. I am sure Jonathan would withdraw support, if any for Sheriff, this shenanigan will not stand.”
The Restart PDP Project group said it wasn’t supporting any candidate, further stressing that it was embarrassing for a new member to be selected chairman of the party and that Sheriff doesn’t have the potential to lead the troubled party.
“Having been a long time party man, who knows the inner workings of Wadata plaza, Modu sheriff will leave and that is very soon. What the party needs is a leadership that would galvanise the party to success, it is clear that Modu Sheriff does not have the capacity to move the party forward and the party has no moral justification to make a serial political decampee its leader.”
