All Progressives Congress (APC) Ondo State governorship aspirant, Rotimi Akeredolu, has said the political class should be blamed for inconclusive elections in the country.
Akeredolu said the Independent National Electoral Commission should not be blamed.
Akeredolu, who is a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association said this in Abuja, on Wednesday.
He spoke in an interview with newsmen after collecting his nomination and intention forms at the APC national secretariat.
He said the political class’ refusal to follow due process has been the cause of inconclusive elections.
Akeredolu explained that INEC had always made efforts to ensure the conduct of successful elections, but lamented that it was unfortunate that the political class had frustrated the commission.
Akeredolu said, “I can assure you of one thing, these inconclusive elections have been worrisome to everybody but the question must be asked, who is to blame?
“I think the blame is for all of us and I want to believe that mainly, the blame is for politicians because when INEC makes some efforts to put in place all their preparations towards elections, politicians will go ahead and put impediments on INEC’s path, it is an unfortunate development.”
Speaking on the anti-corruption fight of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration, Akeredolu said, “As President of the Nigerian Bar Association, I was one of those who fought corruption and will continue to fight corruption anywhere it rears its head. I intervene in so many topical issues as the President of the NBA.
“The President has talked about the members of the bar and the judiciary. What the President is saying is that he needs the cooperation of the judiciary.
“The problem with the justice system is that it moves slowly, but surely. There is no way you can find a quick fix to justice because everybody is entitled to fair hearing.”
