Suspected armed robbers on Wednesday killed the Chief Security Officer (CSO) in charge of the convoy of Ondo governor, Olusegun Mimiko, Mr. Idowu Oyewole, at his residence in Akure, the state capital.
DSP Oyewole was killed after he engaged with some armed robbers terrorising the area.
According to the deceased’s son, Dare, his father was eating at home when one of their neighbours came to inform that robbers were operating in the area.
He said, “One of our neighbours came to inform my dad that there were robbers in the area. He then took his service pistol and followed the neighbour.
“We learnt that on sighting my dad, the robbers exchanged fire with him.
“He was injured in the process and he withdrew from the scene. We found him dead on Thursday.”
The Ondo Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Mr. Femi Joseph, confirmed the killing and said the command had begun investigation.
