Senate president Bukola Saraki on Tuesday exercised his veto power on the ambassadorial nominees of President Muhammdu Buhari.
During plenary, senators had voted against considering President Muhammadu Buhari’s ambassadorial nominees.
Saraki had put the issue of the nominees before his colleagues twice in a voice vote, but more senators shouted “nay” than “aye.”
At the first vote when more senators shouted “nay”, Saraki said, “Please colleagues let’s be serious. I will put it to vote again.”
He repeated the vote again and the “nays” were louder, but he ruled, “The ayes have it.”
Buhari’s ambassadorial nomination has been rife with challenges as APC governors expressed their displeasure, while some of the nominees rejected their nominations for various issues.
