At least among Christians.

When his name was mentioned yesterday and his face (and that of his utterly ravishing wife) came on the screens, the whole venue was electrified. And it wasn’t just popularity, it was genuine warmth.

I asked my companion, a critic of this administration: “But you believe the government is failing, and he is the VP of this government.”

Her response was charmingly simple: “But we like him sha. We really like him.”

The way he carries himself, the beauty of his union with his wife, his sterling personal non-controversy brand, the brilliance he communicates when he speaks, the fact that he is a very different image from what we generally see in government… and of course the fact that he is the first pastor to actually be in the top two of the Nigerian Presidency.

It all comes together to a Vice President Yemi Osinbajo whose favourability ratings must be sky high… at least amongst Pentecostal Christians.
