Harvey Weinstein’s sexual assault saga opened a whole can of worms across continents about sexual assault by celebrities. Kenya Twitter got right into it when one of their own called out a celebrity, Nick Mtuma (actor and model), for sexually assaulting his girlfriend.
Waiting for y'all to talk about these rapey Kenyan actors. Preying on drunk girls at clubs & trying to force them into their cars.

So a friend of mine who’s a mixologist in some of our top clubs sent me this about Nick Mutuma: pic.twitter.com/NcVvanrscN

Just like we’ve seen each time a woman comes forward with her rape/sexual assault story, fellow men formed a protective wall around the accused, saying everything they could to tarnish the image of the girl, the victim. This male entitlement/privilege that presupposes right off the bat that it must have been the woman -the victim- who did, said, wore, something that brought this evil upon her has to stop. Yesterday.
We are just glad that once again, a man is speaking up against abuse.
Reactions:

women in this world will never be safe till men either pay them their due respect or live with the morbid fear of deadly consequences of mishandling a woman coz let's be honest we have failed them

As people take sides and attack @KoomeGitobu . This society is obdurate and hopeless

The buffoonery of blaming the victim. Sexual harassment is wrong. No ifs or buts.

Koome’s defence

I am not. You are attempting to claim that my girlfriend made this whole assault up. You are providing yourself as a witness yet I know for a fact you did the same things he did. Plus you were flat out drunk that night. How can you possibly vouch for Nick’s every move?

There is a huge amount of evidence in the scholarly literature and legal history showing that reporting sexual assault is more likely to harm the victim than the perpetrator. Conversely, false accusations are extremely rare compared to actual sexual assault.

For you to disbelieve the victim and explicitly take sides with the perpetrator is disgusting. You're helping perpetrate sexual violence. Maybe take your job seriously and learn about the subject before you cause more harm.

The fact that you're more worried about men being blackmailed than women being raped is deeply troubling. More than half of your constituents are women. Are you representing them?
