The Thread: Is this the Nigerian police interpretation of “wealth must change hands”?

Yes, we are aware the Nigerian police is underpaid and ill equipped. Yes, we are very well informed that in order to make ends meet- or keep their ogas in a good mood- they assume stationary positions at any junction in and around the city to extort citizens. But this; this new method of extortion (not to mention intimidation) has us worried. Is the Nigerian police taking Dr Odukya’s radical prayer point above literally? Have they appointed themselves instruments through which this will come to pass?

Isn’t this robbing Peter to pay Paul?

Too many versions of the story below abound in Lagos alone that we are can’t help but wonder if the Nigerian police have happened on a sure way to make bank.

However, if it is that the Nigerian police is not actively involved in this new charade of “catch the yahoo boys”, then why are they not doing everything in their power to clear the stigma off their name?
