President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday said that national interest would override any personal ambition or sectional agenda in his decision to seek re-election in 2015 or not.

Jonathan, who stated this in his Eid-El-Kabir message to Muslim faithful in the country, called on all political leaders to do the same.

He felicitated with the Muslims and urged them to use the occasion to pray for the peace, progress and unity of the country as well as the success of the 2015 general elections.

Senate President David Mark and former governor of Lagos State and a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Bola Tinubu, on Friday held separate closed-door meetings with the former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The meetings were held at the former president’s Hilltop residence in Abeokuta.

Both Mark and Tinubu said the issues discussed bordered on politics and the state of the nation.

Tinubu came ahead of Mark.

The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has urged Nigerians to use the period of Eid-El-Kabir to re-dedicate themselves to God by rekindling the spirit of sacrifice, patience and love.

This is contained in the party`s goodwill message issued by Mr Olsa Metuh, its National Publicity Secretary on Friday in Abuja.

The statement charged Nigerians to use the period of this year`s Eid El- Kabir to reflect on the virtue of faith and total submission to the will of the Almighty God.

The South-South Peoples Assembly (SSPA) has described President Goodluck Jonathan as the best performing President in the history of Nigeria.

The Secretary, SSPA, Chief Ayakeme Whisky, said there was clear statistics to show that President Jonathan had outperformed his predecessors.

He said for the first time in the history of Nigeria, the country’s economy was being diversified away from oil.

He said: “No Nigerian President before him has performed as much as he had done. I say that without any apologies and there are clear statistics to prove that.

Former Vice President and presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, Atiku Abubakar, has said that strict adherence to the procedure of due diligence before entering into contractual agreements is an imperative for the evolution of a progressive.

The APC presidential hopeful in a goodwill message on the occasion of the Eid-el-kabir said the significance of the festival is a celebration of trust between man and God, rooted in the fulfilment of promises.

The statement issued by his media office in Abuja on Friday quoted Atiku as saying that trust is the foundation of the relationship between man and God and the two principal religions in Nigeria – Islam and Christianity.
