#EndBadGovernance Likely To End Today With A Massive Protest

The #EndBadGovernance nationwide protest ended today, August 10, with an enormous protest slated between August 1 and 10.

Since the start of the protest, Nigerians have all come out in huge numbers, marching across the country for a change in the government’s anti-people policies as they requested a more efficient way towards governance.

Ahead of the last #EndBadGovernance protest today, the police force has dispersed most of its officers to flashpoints where they believe the protests will be held across the country. The people have declared their disinterest in the President’s speech as it did nothing to soothe their hunger and anger.

Women have walked out on the streets of Abuja with placards and cardboard as they demand that President Bola Tinubu address the economic issues in the country.

An all-women protest under the banner “Women Against Hunger” took place at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on August 9, where they clamoured for a change in the country despite the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest.

A spokeswoman for the protesters, Abiola Akinyode, requested that the President find ways to combat the economic challenges in Nigeria and provide sustainable measures toward the cost of living.

Obasanjo backs the demands of nationwide protesters and claims they are legitimate

Former president of Nigeria and political icon Olusegun Obasanjo has defended the people protesting to have their voices heard by the Nigerian government, stating that he believed their demands were legitimate.

Instead, the former president requested that the federal government listen to the cries of its people as they complain about the nation’s economic crisis. He faulted the government for failing the youths and causing them to take to the streets to protest.

“What the youth demand is very legitimate and should be listened to, or why should they be denied what rightfully belongs to them? They make demands, and we are not listening to them. Many of them are frustrated, desperate, angry, and unemployed. What do we expect? They deserve to be given listening ears.” Obasanjo said.

President of Nigeria and Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledged to continue to persuade the military leaders of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger to return power to civilian rule.

The President was in attendance at the meeting with ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff on August 9, where he promised to bring these military-ruled African countries back to the fold through the power of persuasion.

“We will do everything to offer a hand of friendship to them and give them reasons to return to us,” Tinubu said.

Tobi Amusan fails to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics 100m hurdles final

Unfortunately, Nigerian star athlete Tobi Amusan has been disqualified from competing in the final women’s 100-metre hurdles due to finishing third (12.55s) in the first heat of the semi-finals on August 9.

The world record holder was placed outside the automatic qualification spots and later evolved to the non-automatic spaces by athletes in other heats.

Due to a poor start, Tobi Amusan could not meet with her fellow athletes on the track field as she was a few metres behind them all, therefore trying for a third position.
