Lagos State moves toward banning Danfo/Korope buses from October 1

The Lagos State Government, through the Special Adviser to the Governor, confirmed that there was no going back on the claim that all commercial buses identified as “Danfo” or “Korope” will no longer be allowed to function on the roads of Lagos.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on transportation, Sola Giwa, stated, in line with the Lagos State Strategic Transportation Master Plan (STMP), that the suspension of these commercial vehicles will occur starting from October 1, 2024.
He revealed that implementing the law would take effect in phases as he urged transport operators to register with the transport ministry within two weeks to be a part of the restructuring program.
Dangote Refinery to begin distributing petrol from August

Dangote Group and Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Refinery, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has revealed that the petrol rollout will start in August 2024.
According to the billionaire, the issue of supply from the International Oil Companies (IOCs) has been resolved owing much gratitude to the intervention of the federal government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Dangote also expressed his disappointment and pain in acquiring a site for the Dangote Petrochemical Facility in Ogun State, as the acquisition cost his conglomerate a loss of $500 million.
Bandits impose ₦200 million levy on Zamfara communities

Bandits have taken control of Zamfara State as they impose levies totalling about ₦200 million on a few communities in Zurmi Local Government Area.
According to reports, the villages were threatened to provide their assigned levies or else suffer the consequences as some members had been abducted.
The residents of these villages have lamented that they are unable to raise these amounts within the given deadline and have sought out jobs in neighbouring vicinities.

CONUA demands outstanding salaries and other withheld earned benefits

The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has requested that the federal government make reparations for its members’ outstanding salaries, promotion arrears, and more.
In a published communiqué, the union’s president, Dr Niyi Sunmonu, accused the federal government of withholding over three months’ salaries due to the 2022 strike declared by ASUU.
The FG had implemented a “no work, no pay” for all academic members, which invariably affected CONUA.
