Afeni Shakur Davis, the mother of the late hip-hop legend, Tupac Shakur, has passed on.

The 69-year-old was confirmed dead by a tweet from the Marin County Sherriff’s Office in Northern California.

The former Black Panther movement member changed her birth name – Alice Faye Williams to Afeni Shakur when she moved to New York to join the movement.

Afeni and other party members were arrested in 1969 for conspiracy to bomb several landmarks in the city.

She was however, acquitted of the charges in May 1971, after which, she gave birth to Tupac a month later.
