Lagos govt warns against cholera outbreak, gives possible solutions

The Lagos State government is warning against cholera outbreak as 45 cases of the disease have been recorded at Isolo Local Council Development Area of the state.

Suspected cases recorded were contracted from food sources such as the African food saladpopularly called ‘Abacha’ and other infected foods from food sellers, and otherunhygienic habits.

The state ministry of health has also confirmed that 6 of the cases are dead.

Symptoms of the disease includes nausea, profuse diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, leg cramps, and in severe cases leads to dehydration, coma or death.

The ministry recommends that suspected victims be given oral rehydration solution (10 level teaspoonful of sugar and one level teaspoonful of salt in two 35cl bottles); lot of fluids to drink;  food as soon as it could be tolerated; and immediately  visit the nearest hospital.
