Ali Modu furious with PDP as he’s fired as party chairman

The Peoples Democratic Party has sacked its national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, even as the scheduled national convention billed to hold today was cancelled.

In place of Ali Modu Sheriff, Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State was appointed as interim leader of the party even as a caretaker committee was instituted.

A former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, was appointed interim secretary of the party as a part of the caretaker committee that will see to the affairs of the party for 3 months.

The decision made by the party is in a bid to resolve the controversy that has rocked the PDP in the build up to the national convention.

Speaking to Premium Times, a delegate at the convention said, “The convention is not holding. Our leaders have been meeting since early in the morning and they finally resolved that the convention should be shelved until the court order issued is vacated.”

The delegate also said that some of the leaders of the party argued that “efforts should be made to resolve all differences with the Jerry Gana group before a fresh national convention is held”.

Another delegate at the meeting of the leadership of the party where the decision was made to sack Ali Modu Sheriff also revealed that while the meeting was held at the office of Governor Nyesom Wike in Port Harcourt, the members agreed to make Markafi the chairman of the caretaker committee while Obi would be secretary of the party.

“Governor Fayose said Sheriff should leave for a new caretaker chairman to take over, but Governor Wike said Sheriff should not be disgraced out of office just like that that they should let him be chairman of the caretaker. The governors rejected Mr. Wike’s suggestion,” the source told the online news platform.

The source further revealed that “Sheriff was not happy with the development. In fact, he had to storm out of the venue of the meeting, angrily.”

The meeting was said to have been attended by most of the party’s serving and former governors, senators and honourable members as well as some members of the board of trustees.
