10 LEADING NIGERIAN ARTISTS OF 2024

7. WIZKID

Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, famously known as Wizkid, has cemented his place as one of Nigeria’s most influential artists. Since his breakthrough in 2011 with the hit single Holla at Your Boy, Wizkid has consistently proven himself as a global icon in the music industry. The year 2024 was no different, as the Starboy achieved remarkable feats through new releases, groundbreaking collaborations, and unforgettable tours that further solidified his legacy.

On the 20th of December, Wizkid performed at the Oando PLC’s end of the year party along sides Davido and Burna boy. The event drew thousands of fans, further highlighting Wizkid’s unmatched stardom.

Wizkid was awarded the best male artist award at the 10th Anniversary African Entertainment  Awards USA ( AEAUSA). He was also nominated for a Grammy in 2025 for Best African Music Performance.

The pinnacle of the year was the release of his sixth studio album, Morayo, on November 22. The 16-track album, produced predominantly by P2J, features collaborations with artists like Asake, Anaïs Cardot, Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, and Tiakola. Its introspective tone revealed a deeper, more reflective side of Wizkid, earning praise for its emotional depth and diverse sound. While some critics debated its innovation, fans embraced its unique vibe, making Morayo a commercial and cultural success.

The album’s release, however, was not without controversy. Reports emerged that Wizkid pulled a track from the project due to the featured artist’s prior collaboration with Davido, reigniting discussions about their longstanding rivalry. The move sparked debates among fans, with some questioning whether personal differences should influence professional decisions.

Despite these controversies, Morayo broke streaming records and topped global charts, reaffirming Wizkid’s dominance in the Afrobeats scene.

Wizkid’s achievements in 2024 reflect his relentless pursuit of excellence. From record-breaking releases and impactful collaborations to unforgettable performances and visionary ventures, he continues to push boundaries in both Nigerian and global music scenes.

As the Starboy moves into 2025, fans and industry watchers alike are eager to see what’s next for this trailblazing artist. One thing is certain: Wizkid’s journey of redefining music and culture is far from over.
