The Vice Presidential Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Obi has described the current subsidy regime on petrol in the country as ineffective and unnecessary.
Speaking during the presidential debate organised by the NEDG/BON on Friday, the former Anambra Governor who noted that subsidy spending is currently higher than spending on health and education, stressing that an Atiku presidency will do away with the subsidy regime as the only subsidy currently in place is only funding inefficiency.
He also harped on the diversification of the economy, as he said that there has been no real effort to diversify the economy.
“One component needs to go up: manufacturing. From China to Indonesia and the west, manufacturing is up to 40% but Nigeria’s is around 8 percent,” he said.
