The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gogo Tamuno has been declared winner of the Okrika Ogu/Bolo federal constituency at the ongoing Rivers legislative rerun.
The announcement was made by the returning officer Okwulehie Ikechukwu at council hall, Port Harcourt, the collation center for Rivers East senatorial district due to violence at the constituency.
According to him, Gogo Tamuno polled 11,668 votes to defeat Maureen Tamuno of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 5,995 votes.
“I was escorted here by policemen and soldiers. The level of violence in the area was very high,” he told reporters.
In the same vein, the PDP is also leading in the Senatorial district, as it has already won 4 out of 8 local governments in district.
In Ogu/Bolo, PDP polled 4,578 votes to defeat APC with 3,052 votes. In Omuma, PDP secured 5,606 votes ahead of APC with APC 3,052 votes.
In Omuma, PDP had 28,305 votes, while APC secured only 9,618 votes. PDP had 457 in Okrika, while APC got 212 votes.
