In a move to set a good precedence, Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura, has commenced his second term administration with a zero debt burden to the state.
according to a statement from the governor’s office on Saturday.

In a statement from the governor’s office on Saturday, it said Al-Makura inherited a huge debt burden from the previous administration under Akwe Doma of about N37 billion but made conscious effort towards liquidating it within the first three years of his first term.

The Al-Makura administration approached the capital market in 2013 to source for bonds for some development projects but liquidated the debt within a year purportedly to avoid putting a debt burden on a succeeding administration.

The statement further explained that the common man would eventually bear the impact of any debt owed by government and as a champion of the interest of the masses, he could not justify any debts which he described as “a conspiracy against the masses.”
