General Muhamadu Buhari, (retd), an erstwhile Military Head of State has defended the Nation’s troops over their handling of the menace of terrorist sect, Boko Haram.
According to Buhari, who’s a presidential aspirant of All Progressives Congress, APC, the Nigerian army shouldn’t be castigated for the continued attacks of Boko Haram, instead the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Congress should shoulder the blame.
While addressing delegates of the APC in Enugu over the weekend, he stated that in spite of the “trillions” voted for Nigeria’s defence in the last “three years”, the soldiers still complain about an apparent lack of equipment and arms to prosecute the war against the insurgents.
Buhari, who was accompanied by former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Malam Nasir El Rufai and Chief Audu Ogbe, urged Nigerians to vote out PDP to ensure that “corruption and inefficiency” would be wiped out in the country.
He said: “Soldiers have been complaining that they are ill equipped, in spite of the trillions budgeted for defence in the last three years. If you consider the revenue Nigeria has generated since 1999, you will be shocked at how inefficient and corrupt PDP has been.”
“Soldiers have been saying they are ill equipped, yet trillions have been voted for defence in the last three years. If we don’t vote out PDP we will all be the losers. Cast your votes for us so that we can all fight this inefficiency and corruption.”
Furthermore, Buhari urged party members to get their Permanent Voters Cards, saying it was the only weapon Nigerians could ensure that their votes are counted at the 2015 polls.
