Funke Akinokun is not an ‘in-your-face’ worship minister. But, no doubt she has released some songs that formed a huge part of our praise and worship playlist a few years ago.
Funke Akinokun was introduced like every other minister and we just didn’t expect too much. We were already worried that many of the ministers invited sang songs in Yoruba, the major language of southwestern Nigeria. And for an event that hosted several nations of the world, that might not have been acceptable.
Funke Akinokun was quite unassuming when she took the stage, but she had an ace up her sleeves. Somehow she shook the rather multilingual crowd as she chanted in several languages of the world. And you could literally feel the pulse of the crowd rise every time she switched to another language. It spoke of inclusivity of the beauty of lingual diversity yet of the unity of faith that dwells in ‘Jesus irrespective of race or tribe.
Forget it, Funke Akinokun brought the crowd together
