Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the Speaker of the house of representatives, is reportedly set to jump ship from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and hop aboard the train of All Progressives Congress in the coming weeks.
According to sources, his defection is to prepare him for the 2015 presidential election as he bids to run for the highest office in the country. He is expected to defect to the APC just in time to express interest in the presidential ticket of the opposition party.
According to the timetable of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2015 elections, all Political Parties are scheduled to hold their presidential conventions in October.
Giving credence to his anticipated defection was the man himself, when on Sunday in his hometown, Tambuwal, Sokoto State, Tambuwal subtly let the cat out of the bag when he went to pick up his permanent voters card.
When he was asked if defection to APC was imminent, he reportedly replied in Hausa language, saying: “Kowa ni tsuntsu kukan gidan su yake yi.” which when interpreted means; “birds of the same feather flock together”.
Campaign posters which signified his presidential bid were in many parts of Abuja a few weeks ago, but the Speaker denied being behind the move. Tambuwal recently held a private consultation meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and many believe the subject of the discussion was his presidential ambition.
If he eventually decides to throw his hat into the ring, he will have to vie for the presidential ticket of the APC with Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Senator Bukola Saraki.
Every single time I read a reminder that Tambuwal is in PDP, I get confused. He ‘flocks together’ with APC, has from Day One, and that is extremely clear.
