The chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, is to meet with the national electoral commissioners and with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory on Friday, February 6, and Saturday, February 7, respectively.

The purpose of the two meetings is for Jega to brief the national commissioners on the outcome of the National Council of States meeting held on Thursday, February 5, at the Presidential villa.

While, the second meeting is to ascertain the situation of things on ground from the Resident Electoral Commissioners before deciding on a position on the general elections.

The meeting with the Resident Commissioners will be for an on the spot accessment of the d‎istribution of the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

According to a National Commissioner, “So far, only over 45 million PVCS have been distributed. So the meetings will assess everything before a final decision.”

Also, a stakeholders’ meeting with political parties is expected to hold on Monday, February 9, before INEC decides on the next course of action.
