There’s a lot that’s wrong with the media today. In Nigeria and outside. And it’s not just “fake news” too. We’re all guilty of click-bait to some degree, aren’t we? But how far is too far? Luckily, if we’re Vanguard newspapers, we have Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Kayode Fayemi to remind us. Sure, calling out missteps of the press isn’t exactly in his job description, but it’s a welcome far-cry from the silence we’ve seen too often from his peers, so credit where it’s due
Elsewhere, we have yet another minister who falls prey to the bizarre temptation to “invite” Nigerians “in the diaspora” to come feast on the bounty waiting “back home”. A noble idea which collapses under its own weight once the slightest glance of a critical eye is cast over it. One could ask, why are the millions of Nigerians in Nigeria not billionaires yet? We don’t expect Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, to have an answer for us. What we do know is that it betrays a tendency that causes him to slip down our list this week.
So, from best to worst, our top 10.
