The All Progressive Congress (APC) now form the majority in the Senate according to the announcement of results by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
This turns to be more bad news for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the ruling party currently has the majority in the upper chamber with 64 members, APC has 41, and other parties, like the Labour Party, the Accord Party and the Social Democratic Party, share the remaining five seats. However, in the next senate, the APC will have 64 senators; the PDP, 45; and the Labour Party, one.
APC’s victory would be particularly sad for current Senate President, David Mark who is returning to the Senate for the fifth time, and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, who is also returning as they will lose their seats.
Other principal officers from the PDP like the Senate Leader, Victor Ndoma -Egba; his deputy, Abdul Ningi; Chief Whip, Bello Gwarzo; and his deputy, Hosea Agboola, all lost their bid to return.
