I think that the time has long since passed for you [Bash Ali] to accept your age and go and play with your grandchildren.
Depending on whom you listen to, life in Nigeria is hard. But again, most Nigerians would agree that in our national capital, Abuja, the hardness is relatively benign. That is until now. Not quite happy with sharing the pothole free roads with the plebeians, the authorities there have issued an edict that returns the Abuja plebs to Nigeria. Quite a few of them are not amused.
Amusement is something that Bash Ali, once upon a time, pretender to the world cruiser-weight title, provided me over the weekend. This story, complete with video of him being hustled out of the office of the Minister of Sports is, well, quite funny, and he provides our quote of the day which I will go straight to.
Quote of the Day
“There is no respect in this country for the people who should be respected.” — Bash Ali
Oh well, you won some globally unrecognised boxing title when I was five years old and since then have been making a lot out of it. While I accept that the Minister’s menagerie, as they are wont to in these parts, acted over-zealously, I think that the time has long since passed for you to accept your age and go and play with your grandchildren.
Bits and bobs
Tunji Andrews, Kalu Aja, and Bellanchi have already pilloried me for this, but hey, I still cannot understand why someone wants to give Nigerians abroad loans to build here. Not when “Housing for all by the year 2000” failed so spectacularly. I mean, who came up with that bright idea?
Abandon hope all ye who enter here. Chevron wants to bail out.
And with no compensation like the #DanaAirCrash victims I assume.
Apparently, the warring factions of the PDP would soon kiss and make up.
Finally, for those of you who love math, read this.
