The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says there’s no going back on Saturday’s governorship election i Ondo.
Chairman of the electoral body, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu made the disclosure on Tuesday in Akure saying the commission had put everything in place to ensure its success.
Yakubu said the situation in Ondo had not met the conditions provided by the Electoral Act, required for an election to be postponed.
“We have taken steps to ensure that the Ondo election is held as scheduled.
“INEC has no plan to postpone the election this weekend.”
The Ahmed Makarfi faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had called for the postponement of the election due to a pending court case at the Court of Appeal.
Yakubu said INEC its officers will abide by the law, assuring that Ondo people will be allowed to choose their next governor.
