Kemi Adeosun, the Minister of Finance and Mounir Gwarzo are not done squabbling. The Director Gen of SEC claims Adeosun suspended him as payback for refusing to stop auditing Oando, but Kemi Adeosun has retorted that it’s all lie. She insists Gwarzo was suspended because of his “financial improprieties”. Still, Twitter Nigeria is not convinced.
See below:
1/ The attention of the Honourable Minister of Finance @HMKemiAdeosun has been drawn to some misleading and mischievous media reports regarding the suspension of the Director-General of @SECNigeria, Mr. Mounir H. Gwarzo.
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
2/ Mr. Gwarzo has alleged that his suspension was due to “his refusal to stop the forensic audit of @Oando_PLC."
This is False. For the avoidance of doubt, there was no directive whatsoever to discontinue investigation into Oando.
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
3/ The investigative work on @Oando_PLC and all other ongoing investigations being undertaken by @SECNigeria in the discharge of its statutory functions have continued and are ongoing. Indeed, our information is that the forensic auditors have resumed at Oando.
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
4/ We would like to place on record that Gwarzo’s suspension is in line with the Public Service Rules (PSRs), to allow for an unhindered investigation of serious allegations of financial impropriety against him.
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
5/ Some of the allegations with documented evidence include the awards of contracts to companies related to him and members of his family. It should be noted that Gwarzo was queried by the Ministry on 3rd November and he responded on 7th November, 2017.
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
6/ His response to the query was deemed unsatisfactory & further investigation ordered.Based on evidence from that, & creditable reports that documents were being unlawfully removed from SEC, as well as consultations with @officialEFCC,the decision was taken to suspend Mr Gwarzo
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
7/ At the meeting on Monday, November 27, 2017, Mr. Gwarzo was asked to clarify some of his responses to the query issued, which were not consistent with documentary evidence.
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
8/ From that interaction, Mr. Gwarzo became aware of the strong likelihood of his suspension. It was thereafter that Mr. Gwarzo prepared the memo, which has been circulated in the media.
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
9/ Mr Gwarzo personally delivered the Memo using SEC staff seconded to the Minister's office, in breach of normal procedures. The Memo copy in the Minister's possession was delivered with a message that any action against Mr. Gwarzo would result in same being leaked to the press
— Federal Ministry of Finance (@FinMinNigeria) December 8, 2017
10/ @HMKemiAdeosun restates that the insinuation of an instruction to discontinue with the @Oando_PLC case is false, and this can be corroborated by the other parties at that meeting and by subsequent events.

Reactions:
Just curious to know if the Minister complied with the provisions of the ISA in suspending the DG?
No provision for suspension of SEC DG.
No wonder they had to resort to PSRs to do the 'hatchet' job. pic.twitter.com/5uBwpYcESR

How convenient!

So why did it take almost a month to debunk a false allegation or reports.

It's a war of attrition. Both sides are digging in on their actions are validated for the best interest of the country without clarity or substantiated fact. It's an abracadabra…..they're gonna settle at the least interest of Nigerians later.

This was just being circulated this week, and a prompt response today. Not up to a month

@HMKemiSdeosun has graciously enlightened us that Mr. Gwarzo was rightly suspended, to allow for unhindered investigation in line with public service rules(PSR).Since the @HMKemiAdeosun stands accused by Gwarzo, won't it be in line with same PSR and ethical for her to step aside?

Oh my beloved country. The more you look the less you see

Is it also true that Madam Kemi is an ex employee of Oando? We learnt petition against Gwarzo was received 2 yrs ago.Why now that investigation on Oando is ongoing that he should be suspended?

Questions. Questions.
