‘Tompolo is a civilised Nigerian’ | Edwin Clark writes Buhari over pipelines’ attacks (READ)

Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to look into the ‘humiliation and harassment’ of Niger Deltans, especially former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo.

Tompolo had been accused of being behind the recent destruction of oil and gas pipelines by militants in the Niger Delta.

Many suggested that the the former militant leader may be orchestrating the attacks over the warrant for his arrest, given by a Federal High Court.

In a letter dated January 22, 2016, the former Federal Commissioner for Information for Information urged President Buhari to investigate the proposed scrapping of the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, which was established by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Clark also counselled Buhari to be careful of people around him who may be feeding him with false information, and consequently mislead him.

He added that while the Niger Delta region lays the golden egg, yet only one or two people from the region owns an oil bloc.

While condemning the blowing up of major oil and gas pipelines by militants in the Niger Delta, he maintained that Tompolo, a civilized Nigerian can never be part of the renewed bombing of the pipes.

He said: “I totally condemn the vandalisation of oil and gas pipelines and will give you 100 per cent support for whatever action you take to bring the culprits to book. It is with heavy heart that I decided to take record of pipeline vandalisations that have taken place within the last two years.”
