National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has revealed that he has initiated contact with politicians who defected to the All Progressives Congress and other political parties.
Sheriff’s appointment as PDP Chairman has generated sharp division within the former ruling party, owing to his chequered past of being alleged to have ties with Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram.
But he attributes the initial opposition to his candidacy to the unease of the All Progressives Congress with his ability to unite members of the PDP and to bring back those who had cross-carpeted.
The former governor of Borno State, speaking through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Inuwa Bwala in Abuja on Saturday, said he has started making significant headway in his attempt to bring back ‘those who have left’ the main opposition party.
“We have started reaching out to those who left the PDP and we are discussing already.”
“We are getting positive results from them, but we won’t go to the pages of newspapers to announce their names.”
“The APC and its leadership are aware that Sheriff has the ability to unite the members of the PDP and also bring back those who have left the party.”
“This was why we had the initial controversy on the appointment. But now, we have thrown that behind us as we have resumed work fully.”
