The Federal Government has reportedly ordered the release of the arms-laden Russian Antonov aircraft intercepted on Saturday at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.
The plane which was bound for Chad, had been detained by the Nigerian military for more than 48 hours.
Although, it was recently stated by PR Nigeria, the information outlet of Nigerian security agencies, that “Nigeria has no reason to release the aircraft and its cargo until investigation is concluded”, it is now being reported that the government has let go the seized aircraft.
Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Adesola Amosu, reportedly confirmed on Monday, that the government had approved the release of the aircraft.
On Sunday, December 7, the Russian Embassy’s Twitter handle stated that the aircraft belonged to France.
