‘No one is replacing Saraki’ | Senators back Senate president

Some members of the upper chamber of the National Assembly have reiterated their support for the embattled Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki will on Friday, March 11, continue his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for 13 counts of alleged false declaration of assets.

The senators, in a joint statement signed by 6 senators, said there was absolutely no need for the Senate to shop for a new leader as opposed to the reports making its round.

The position of the senators became necessary following a news story published by a news outlet reporting that some senators were already discussing who Saraki’s successor would be.

The senators stated that they were compelled to make the clarification after meeting with counterparts who have been occupied with tons of calls from their constituents asking them to verify the truth behind the story.

The 6 senators who put their signature to the statement all happen to be chairmen of various committees in the senate.

Those who signed the statement were the Chairmen Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, APC, Kwara South; Committee on Niger Delta, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, PDP, Delta North; Committee on Media and Publicity, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, APC, Niger North; Committee on Navy, Senator Isa Hamma Misau, APC, Bauchi Central; Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, PDP, Imo East and Committee on Health( Secondary), Senator Lanre Tejuoso, APC, Ogun Central.
