When on Sunday, the 21st of May, The Punch published an interview with the former Minister of State for Defence and failed Lagos gubernatorial candidate for PDP, Musiliu Obanikoro, we immediately wrote about that interview.
Our finding:
In that interview, he dilly-dallied so much that it became clear that the man was hiding something in plain sight – his desire to be accepted into the folds of the ruling party.
For example, when his interviewer asked him whether the rumours that he’d defected to the APC were true, Obanikoro went on a self righteous detour about “public interest and the dynamisn of politics”.
Thankfully, that interviewer was tough so he was told that he had managed to not answer the question, to which he finally “categorically” responded that those reports were rumours.
Today, the 20th of June, practically less than a month after that interview, Musiliu Obanikoro is now a member of the APC. He announced this at a press conference today.
It’s hard not to gloat and say we totally saw this coming while issuing him his receipts but we’ll try. If only for the fact that he stuck to one thing he said during that interview: that a “personality” like him will only leave the PDP in “a grand way”. A “grand way” being a press conference.
