Thugs hurl stones at Pres. Jonathan’s convoy in Katsina

by James Sambo

On Tuesday, January 20, political thugs attacked the convoy of President Goodluck Jonathan in Katsina state during his re-election campaign.

The shameful incident reportedly occured when Jonathan, alongside Vice President Namadi Sambo; the National Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu; Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina state, and others, paid a courtesy visit to the late President Umar Yar’Adua’s mother, Hajiya Dada.

As the President and members of his entourage pulled into the Yar’Adua Quarters, the youths, who wielded brooms and chanted ‘Sai Buhari’, pressed forward.

While this ensued, security agents attached to the president, sought to disperse the crowd.

Subsequently, the group re-assembled and moved to attack the President’s convoy as he made to leave the Yar’Adua residence.

Consequently, security agents were compelled to fire tear gas canisters to disperse the youth to allow vehicles in the convoy of the President to speed off.

As the presidential delegation made their way towards the Katsina Airport, youth hurled stones at the convoy.

Earlier on, Jonathan had addressed a rally at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in the state capital, where he spoke on the security situation in some parts of the country, saying: “We have challenges like many other countries in the world but we are still managing because of our focus. We will get through our challenges because we are working hard and you know it.”
