The Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, on Saturday accused the Peoples Democratic Party of planning to use a section of students of the University of Benin to unleash mayhem on innocent people in the state following the disagreement between the state government and the institution over property ownership.
Oshiomhole, who stated this in Benin during a television broadcast to the people of the state, alleged that the leadership of the PDP in the state had held series of meetings at the residence of one of the candidates of the party, where it planned to recruit students and thugs to raze petrol tankers in strategic parts of the state capital, which could lead to the loss of innocent lives and property.
He alleged that huge sums of money had been provided by the opposition party for the students to mobilise more people as the they resumed today (Saturday), so “that by Monday, they will mobilise enough students with these funds provided by the leadership of the opposition party in this state to cause mayhem in Benin City.”
The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation has asked Nigerians to ignore the “utterly silly and reckless statement” credited to the over-exuberant Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose to the effect that General Muhammadu Buhari does not enjoy good health.
This came as the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Mohammadu Buhari, promised to revive Ajaokuta Steel Company if elected president of Nigeria
In a statement issued in Abuja on Friday, the Campaign Organisation dismissed as “unsolicited, reckless and silly” the allegation that former President Obasanjo was planning an imposition of General Buhari on Nigeria as he allegedly did the late President Yar’Adua while ignoring their health conditions.
Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State on Friday said that his administration had concluded plans to relocate all tank farms in Apapa to a world class industrial and petrochemical plant in Lekki.
Fashola spoke in Lagos as the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign train in the state moved to Apapa area of the state.
He said that the relocation would make Apapa become the commercial, residential and industrial hub it used to be.
Former Federal Commi s s ioner for Information and Ijaw national leader, Edwin Clark has accused national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega of working to ensure victory for the main opposition party, the APC in next month presidential elections.
Speaking while playing host to some PDP campaign groups, Chief Clark alleged that the INEC chairman was making frantic efforts to ensure that the incumbent President and PDP presidential candidate, Dr Goodluck Jonathan did not win next month election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Taraba State on Saturday said it had distributed about 80 per cent of Permanent Voter Cards to registered voters in the state.
INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Alhaji Ahmad Makama, disclosed this in Jalingo while speaking on the commission’s preparation for the forthcoming polls.
He said the remaining 20 per cent were available at the various ward headquarters for collection, adding that INEC decided to decentralise the PVCs distribution to ensure all registered voters in the state get theirs cards.
