This morning, like many other Nigerians and normal humans of the world, I woke up with joy. A 39-year-old Emmanuel Macron has just become the youngest President in France’s 59-year history. Also, I was not hallucinating when I read the news of the release of 82 more Chibok Girls in addition to the 24 that had either escaped or been released through government efforts.
As I checked to confirm that these amazing news were not just in my dreams and planned how to write stories to link these successes with how to move on from here – #EnMarche! – I came upon the news that the Makarfi-led faction of a “dying” political party would, rather than rejoice that we have made some more headway with the release of Chibok Girls, choose to pour sand inside our lemonade.

Dayo Adeyeye, the spokesperson for a faction that has died and should have been buried by now if not for the disease of stupidity that continues to plague Nigeria’s so-called opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, wrote:
”According to reports, the girls were released in exchange for the release of suspected Boko Haram terrorists. If that is the case, we say it’s a heavy price to pay and an unusual one at that. The suspected terrorists by the release have escaped justice. And all the effort made by security agencies to bring them to book has come to nothing. The release of the terrorists is a setback for the war on the insurgency. Their release is tantamount to releasing them to resume their war against society. Many of them could find their ways back to the terrorists’ camps from where they could unleash terror against the country. Others who are allowed to roam freely in society could become veritable recruiting agents and purveyors of suicide bombing and urban terrorism.”
First, if this former Minister of State for Works under the former PDP dispensation is not suffering from amnesia, then he’ll know that it is not from his own mouth – or from any of the big for nothing mouths that currently inhabit the PDP for that matter – that these kinds of criticisms should be coming from. That is if we were even to concede that these are valid criticisms.

Or is Mr Adeyeye working with of some twisted version of history?
What even is this life?
Do we not all remember that PDP’s President Goodluck Jonathan, in tune with the general theme of his administration, was dancing and welcoming Shekarau into the PDP fold in Kano State the day the Chibok Girls were abducted; the very same day that lives were lost right under where his nose should have been in the Federal Capital Territory? of course, April 14, 2014, was a day for him to dance. He’d, as usual, later commemorate with the families and friends of those who died in the Nyanya bombing.
Oh! wait, Even I am forgetting that he did not believe that there was a possibility that the girls had been abducted until two weeks after the kidnap – giving the Boko Haram all the head start they needed for a chase that the government was never going to embark on.
“Why?” I hear you scream.
Do you mean why were 276 girls abducted under President Jonathan’s nose or why didn’t he ever go after the Boko Haram insurgents in a bid to get the girls back?
Well, we do not know. What we do know is that the PDP did not believe the girls’ abduction was a reality. Right the wife of the President down to PDP governors and those who benefitted from the PDP administration, they all claimed that the abduction was a sham to get Jonathan out of office.

Can you believe this? This is a serving Governor in a country with living souls. I will say it finally because I have been pushed: Governor Fayose is a complete shame to everything adulthood should stand for.
And speaking of the people who benefitted from the administration, Asari Dokubo – who by the way, also does not agree that any Chibok Girls are missing – is a living testimony of why PDP really should not come here with this righteous talk no one needs to be hearing.
Talking about:
“The negotiations are in clear violation and indeed a direct assault on the generally accepted international principle never to negotiate with terrorists. This international principle is sound and logical because negotiation with the terrorists only fuels their urge to continue with their heinous crimes”
The fact Asari Dokubo and militants like him are walking free is another testament to the failure of the PDP and it takes off whatever rights they think they have to condemn the Buhari-administration for negotiating for the release of the Chibok Girls by releasing some imprisoned insurgents. How dare a political party under whose tenure Nigeria was made to vow to pay off militants for an indefinite period dare to condemn another for negotiating the release of our girls using a tactic that even the U.S.A has used severally? How dare you?
Finally, Dear Mr Adeyeye, in what universe did anyone tell you it is okay for a faction that does not exist by law to issue a press statement on a national issue of this magnitude on behalf of the opposition?
