Republican Steve Scalise is out of intensive care unit

According to the Associated Press, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is out of the intensive care unit at MedStar Washington Hospital Center but is still in a serious condition.

Naming an unidentified source, Associated Press published its report, Wednesday saying the congressman was moved out of the ICU. The congressman was readmitted into the ICU on July 6 due to an infection. The director of trauma at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Dr. Jack Sava, said that Scalise was originally “in critical condition with an imminent risk of death” when he first arrived at the hospital, Politico reports.

Scalise was injured with four other people were injured June 14 while practicing for the annual Congressional baseball game, one of them injured their ankle while four were hit by the gunman. The gunman was shot and killed on the scene by security detail who were at the field.
