[The Legislative Blog]: President Buhari, Hon Jibrin and the anti-corruption sham

Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin still gets media coverage. With every – no longer shocking – revelation, Nigeria’s foremost whistleblower still gets the attention of the press. But that’s where it ends, sadly.

The APC, his political party, after issuing a warning to him to desist from making the budget padding allegations public has stopped responding to his comments; the opposition party, PDP who should hold these allegations against the government is silent; the EFCC and other anti-graft agencies won’t make a move and the rest of us? Well, we’re just here doing almost nothing.

Hon Jibrin has become, like they say, a toothless barking dog.

Yesterday again, he took to his Twitter page to reveal how Speaker, Hon Yakubu Dogara and his deputy, Hon Yusuf Lasun manipulated the system to receive an outrageous N500m for accommodation. He further accused them of using the so-called apartment to host “parties with prostitutes”. Well, the latter accusation is not so much our concern.

What is upsetting is how this man makes mention of large sums of government money being squandered and stolen and siphoned – and every other word that there is in the corruption dictionary – and no authority has made it a point of duty to invite him over for questioning and subsequent investigation into the matter.

All of this may sound repetitive as we’ve come here to make similar calls on behalf of Hon Jibrin and it’s honestly becoming a bit frustrating but we won’t tire.

If not all but best believe, more than half of these allegations are genuine.

All of us should hold President Muhammadu Buhari responsible for the inaction of the EFCC on this case since we know how the accused man has been a frequent guest of the president recently. President Buhari’s hypocrisy cannot be denied, especially now that his wife, Aisha has publicly detailed his incompetence and everything contrary to what he claimed to be when he won the elections in 2015.

The President has made a choice of turning his “deaf ear” to Hon Jibrin but Nigerians have the choice of amplifying these accusations till the rest of the world hears us and know for a fact (if they still aren’t sure) that Nigeria’s corruption problem starts from the presidency and we all have been swindled again re change.

Let’s all be mad with Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin.
