Mint has more than two dozen species and hundreds of varieties. It has remarkable medicinal properties.
1. Sooth Upset Stomachs
Mint is very well known for its ability to help sooth upset stomachs.
2. Lessen Muscle Spasms
Once the smooth muscles surrounding the intestine are relaxed, there is less chance of spasm and the indigestion that can accompany it.” (Peppermint) A lot of physicians agree that this is due to the menthol contained in the plant.
3. Packed with Nutrients
Mint, specifically peppermint, is also quite full of nutrients. Particularly it is rich in manganese, vitamin C and vitamin A. Some studies have shown that vitamin C intake is linked to decreased risk of colon cancer.
4. Improves Oral Health
Another great thing about mint is that it’s great to consume if you have a cold or flu and you’re congested. The strong aroma of mint (again, due to the menthol content) is effective in opening up congested noses, throats and lungs. Since mint is somewhat cooling as well, it’s also effective in soothing sore throats caused by coughing.
5. Promotes Digestion
Irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion and colonic muscle spasms have all been shown to benefit from the consumption of mint leaves.
6. Great Source of Fiber
Additionally, mint is a great source of fiber, folate, iron, magnesium and calcium.
7. Effective Remedy for Nausea
The aroma of mint leaves can quickly and effectively remedy nauseas and the smell of mint oil alleviates headaches.
8. Relieves Fatigue and Depression
Mint is a natural stimulant, therefore, the smell can quickly recharge your batteries and get your brain functioning again. With just a few drops of mint oil in your pillow at night can really help you feel happier and refreshed.
9. Weight Loss in a Healthy Way
Mint is a stimulant, therefore it stimulates the digestive enzymes that absorb nutrients from foods.
10. As a Condiment
Mint leaves provide just the perfect condiment and decorative item in culinary preparation. The taste is delicious and fresh, which makes food taste delicious.
